Apple designs consumer hardware, software and services. The iPhone is its biggest product, alongside the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro. It designs its own Apple silicon chips and the operating systems that run on them.
A growing share of Apple's business comes from services, including the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Pay and AppleCare, sold to a base of more than two billion active devices.
Apple was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, went public in 1980, and changed its name from Apple Computer to Apple in 2007, the year the iPhone launched. Tim Cook led Apple from 2011 until September 2026, when hardware engineering chief John Ternus succeeded him as CEO and Cook became executive chairman.
