ASML builds lithography machines, which use light to print the patterns of a chip's circuits onto silicon wafers. Every major chipmaker, including TSMC, Samsung and Intel, relies on its equipment.
It is the only company that makes extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, which are needed for the most advanced chips, and is now shipping its next generation, High-NA EUV.
ASML was founded in 1984 as a joint venture between Philips and ASM International, and is based in Veldhoven in the Netherlands. It trades in Amsterdam and on the Nasdaq.
