Broadcom designs chips for data centre networking, broadband, wireless and storage, and custom AI accelerators that it co-designs with large cloud companies. Its Ethernet switch chips connect many of the GPU clusters used to train AI models.
It is also a major enterprise software company, built through acquisitions of CA Technologies, Symantec's enterprise business and, in 2023, VMware.
Today's Broadcom traces back to Hewlett-Packard's semiconductor group, which became Avago Technologies. Avago bought Broadcom Corporation in 2016 and took its name. Hock Tan has been CEO since 2006.
