Chipper Cash is a payments company focused on Africa. Its app lets people send money within Africa and across borders to bank and mobile money accounts, pay online with virtual Visa cards, buy airtime, pay bills and invest in US stocks. Chipper for Business offers bulk payments, collections and business accounts, and the company also runs an identity verification product.
Chipper was founded in 2018 by Ham Serunjogi and Maijid Moujaled and is headquartered in San Francisco. It says it has more than 5 million users. It also acquired Zambian fintech Zoona (announced in late 2022), which added remittances and cash services through an agent network.
After raising at a valuation above $2 billion in 2021, Chipper restructured to focus on margins and cash flow, and reported its first quarter without cash burn in the fourth quarter of 2025.
