CleanSpark is one of the largest bitcoin miners in the United States. It owns and runs data centres in Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and Wyoming with around a gigawatt of power capacity, filled with machines that mine bitcoin.
Because large, powered sites are scarce, CleanSpark is now converting some of them into data centres for AI and high-performance computing, leased to technology companies.
CleanSpark began as an energy software and microgrid company and moved into bitcoin mining in 2020. It is headquartered in Henderson, Nevada.

Another bet that power is the bottleneck. Bitcoin miners spent years securing cheap electricity and large sites, which is exactly what AI data centres need now.
CleanSpark has that power across several US states and is starting to convert it to AI computing, while still mining bitcoin in the meantime.

CleanSpark's big bet on converting mining sites into AI data centres leans heavily on Texas, where it holds exclusivity over up to 885MW with one tenant. Governor Abbott ordered an audit of data centre grid connections in August, and CEO Matt Schultz told the Q3 earnings call the honest answer on what follows is "we don't know." The stock is now down 50% from its 52-week high.
