Coinbase lets people and businesses buy, sell and store bitcoin, ether, stablecoins and other crypto assets. It also runs a derivatives exchange, custody for institutions (including many bitcoin ETFs), and staking.
Coinbase built Base, a blockchain network on top of Ethereum, and earns a share of the interest on USDC, the stablecoin it helped create with Circle.
Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam founded Coinbase in San Francisco in 2012. It has been remote-first, with no headquarters, since 2020, and listed directly on the Nasdaq in 2021.
