Intel designs and manufactures processors, including Core chips for PCs and Xeon chips for servers, based on the x86 architecture it created. Unlike most chip designers, it builds most of its own chips in its own factories.
Through Intel Foundry it also makes chips for other companies, and it is building new factories in the United States around its most advanced 18A manufacturing process.
Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce founded Intel in 1968. Lip-Bu Tan became CEO in 2025, the same year the US government, Nvidia and SoftBank all took stakes in the company.
