Microsoft makes software and cloud services for people and businesses. Azure is one of the largest cloud platforms in the world, and Microsoft 365 (Office, Teams, Outlook) and Windows remain the standard tools in most workplaces. Copilot brings AI assistants across these products.
It also owns GitHub, LinkedIn and the Xbox gaming business, which grew substantially with the acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023. Microsoft is a major investor in and partner of OpenAI.
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen and went public in 1986. Satya Nadella has been CEO since 2014.

Why I own it
Microsoft sells software nearly every business already depends on: Windows, Office, Teams, and Azure underneath. Companies can't easily leave any of them.
Azure gives it a big share of the AI build-out, and Copilot puts AI in front of hundreds of millions of people who already use its products. Distribution like that is very hard to beat.

The Aussie dollar slipped under 70 US cents this week
The RBA's official rate fell from 0.6977 to 0.6933 US dollars between 30 September and 2 October. That matters for Australian holdings like AutoGrab and Flyweel, whose cloud bills from Amazon and Microsoft are priced in US dollars while their revenue sits in Aussie ones. A softer dollar also means the US-heavy public basket is worth more back home, even before any share price moves.
