Microsoft makes software and cloud services for people and businesses. Azure is one of the largest cloud platforms in the world, and Microsoft 365 (Office, Teams, Outlook) and Windows remain the standard tools in most workplaces. Copilot brings AI assistants across these products.
It also owns GitHub, LinkedIn and the Xbox gaming business, which grew substantially with the acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023. Microsoft is a major investor in and partner of OpenAI.
Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen and went public in 1986. Satya Nadella has been CEO since 2014.
