Sandisk makes NAND flash memory, the storage inside phones, laptops and data centre servers. It sells flash chips and solid-state drives to device makers and cloud companies, and memory cards and USB drives to consumers.
It makes its flash in a long-running joint venture with Japan's Kioxia, and is growing its business in high-capacity SSDs for AI data centres.
Eli Harari, Sanjay Mehrotra and Jack Yuan founded the company in 1988 as SunDisk. Western Digital bought it in 2016, then spun it back out as a separate listed company in February 2025.
