Tesla designs and builds electric vehicles, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck. It also runs one of the largest fast-charging networks in the world, the Supercharger network.
Beyond cars, Tesla makes lithium-ion battery storage for homes (Powerwall) and utilities (Megapack), sells solar products, and develops its own AI for Full Self-Driving, its robotaxi service and the Optimus humanoid robot.
Tesla was founded in 2003 as Tesla Motors. Elon Musk led its early funding rounds and became CEO in 2008. The company listed on the Nasdaq in 2010, dropped "Motors" from its name in 2017 and moved its headquarters from California to Austin, Texas, in 2021.
