Meta's VR Glasses Are Tempting Me Away From Apple

Incredible from $METAMETA on TradingView today. The VR Glasses are the first Meta product I'm actually considering purchasing.

They're pretty close to the glasses I want from Apple.

Obviously Meta has the spectre of advertising and privacy concerns casting shadows over any of its releases. But when products are this compelling, and priced this competitively, it becomes easier to look past.

$AAPLAAPL on TradingView Apple needs to release glasses; an AR version and a VR version. Both of which can tether to your iPhone or Mac for compute.

I want to be able to tether to my Mac and have multiple monitors/interfaces in front of me. This is the killer app. Weigh 100 grams, wear all day, wear anywhere. The AR version would address this. Sleek, slim, unobtrusive.

AR = productive, approachable.

The VR version would be for consumption; sport, movies, tv, gaming. You're completely immersed in the virtual environment. More akin to Meta's new VR glasses.

VR = immersive, personal.

Vision Pro is an incredible piece of technology. But its short-comings are so great, that even early tech adopters like me, still couldn't jump the numerous hurdles (size, weight, aesthetics, everyday usefullness, isolating) to make a purchase.

Meta is well and truly at the forefront of consumer AR/VR and have been on a steady march for a decade since acquiring Oculus. They've been shipping, subsidising, and innovating.

@Apple wait for perfection; however they're not alone at the top anymore. @Meta are coming for them. Google are there too. OpenAI will release their first device soon.

While Apple sit on the sidelines, Meta have been failing and suceeding in public, all while making steady progress towards the dream form factor.

It's been intriguing to watch the strategies play out!
