How it's read
- 129 Sept 2026 · First reading. Adds public news: once a week an AI with web search gathers dated developments on the call, Jev keeps the ones that bear on it, and reads them with the evidence on this site. (jev-1.13.0)
- 230 Sept 2026 · New method. Adds a research brief from Claude Opus 5.5 with web search (weekly, twice weekly in the last 100 days): key numbers and financials, outside odds from prediction markets and analysts, dates coming up, the base rate, and the strongest case each way. Jev reads it with the news and the evidence on this site. (jev-1.13.0)
The odds move when the evidence does, and also when what Jev is given or Jev itself changes, so each change is marked. A model's reading, not a forecast; it can be wrong.

The case for
Musk has repeatedly declined to rule out a merger, in July and again in mid-September. The two companies already share Terafab, Tesla owns SpaceX stock, and SpaceX buys from Tesla. Musk's 85% voting control of SpaceX, against about 20% of Tesla, gives him a strong reason to bring Tesla under SpaceX's super-voting structure. Prominent analysts such as Ives (over 80% by end-2027) and Munster (90% within two years) expect it, and SpaceX already showed with xAI that it can do this kind of deal.
The case against
As of October 5, 2026 there is no agreement, valuation or exchange ratio. Musk sits on both sides, so any deal needs independent committees and approval from Tesla's other shareholders. Tesla's weak operating profit and SpaceX's $18B-a-quarter capex make agreeing a price contentious and open to lawsuits. Oppenheimer argues that keeping two public stocks gives Musk more ways to raise capital, and a deal announced late in 2027 might not close until 2028.
Outside odds
- Dan Ives (Wedbush / Ives & Co.): Estimates there is more than an 80% probability that Tesla and SpaceX will merge by the end of 2027. No deal structure or shareholder vote timeline was provided.BigGo Finance, 23 Sept 2026
- Oppenheimer: Acknowledged that a combination remains "plausible," but does not expect a near-term merger, arguing that "having two public currencies supports that strategy most effectively."Stocktwits (via Investing.com), 11 June 2026
- Jim Cramer (CNBC): On September 28, Jim Cramer said "there is nothing stopping" Musk from merging the two.24/7 Wall St., 28 Sept 2026

Base rate. Musk has merged his own companies several times: Tesla bought SolarCity in 2016, xAI absorbed X in 2025, and SpaceX absorbed xAI in February 2026. But SolarCity was the only one involving a public company, and it took about five months from announcement to close. A deal between two public companies worth more than $1 trillion each would have no precedent. Related-party deals of that kind usually need independent committees, a vote by shareholders other than Musk and regulatory review, which ofte
